  • 05.05.2009

The Polimex-Mostostal, Interbud-West consortium will begin building the Museum of the History of Polish Jews in June this year.

“The agreement should be signed this month and the construction will start at any moment. This means, that the museum will be opened, at the latest, in the summer of 2012," said Robert Supel, deputy director of the museum:

The winning bid was the cheapest among the five taking part in the tendering procedure, and comes in at around 152 million zloty.

According to the agreement, the construction company has less than three years to complete the museum. The exact content of the museum is now being prepared by an international collective of scholars from Poland, the USA and Israel.

The Museum of the History of Polish Jews will be erected on the site of the former Jewish ghetto, razed to the ground by the Nazis during the Second World War following an uprising in the ghetto in 1943. (jg/pg)
