In another indication of gathering moment for Jaroslaw Kaczynski in the June 20 presidential elections, the Law and Justice candidate is just two percentage points behind Bronislaw Komorowski, according to the latest opinion poll.
Bronislaw Komorowski (Civic Platform) is on 38 percent support in the survey by TNS OBOP, with Jaroslaw Kaczynski on 36 percent - the narrowest gap between the two leading candidates since the election campaign began.
Compared to a similar survey on May 20, Komorowski, currently the acting president of Poland, has lost up to 15 percentage points in support. Jaroslaw Kaczynski has gained eight percent and third placed Grzegorz Napieralski (SLD) is up seven to 12 percent.
The results of the OBOP poll differ significantly from most other surveys (see our election web page poll tracker). But the results confirm a movement in the last few days towards Jaroslaw, the twin brother of the late president, Lech Kaczynski.
Better news for Komorowski is that if the elections went to a second round head-to-head between him and Kaczynski, then the Civic Platform candidate maintains a clear 12 percent lead.
The survey was conducted by TNS OBOP for TVP public television by telephone from a sample of 1000 adult Poles on 10-11 June. Statistical error is within plus or minus 3,1 percent. (pg)
