Andrzej Olechowski

Andrzej Olechowski was born in Krakow in 1947 and studied economics at Warsaw School of Economics.

He worked at the UN and World Bank in the 1970s and 80s and participated in the Round Table talks of 1989 as an economics advisor to the government. Olechowski was finance minister in 1992 and foreign minister 1993-95.

In 2000 Olechowski stood as an independent candidate and came second to Aleksander Kwasniewski. In 2001, alongside Donald Tusk and Maciej Plazynski, he set up the Civic Platform party. He formally announced his resignation last year.

He is married with two sons.
