Convicts of petty offences will be released from prison wearing electronic bracelets, all thanks to a new electronic monitoring system.
A new scheme of electronic monitoring bracelets for convicts will start operating in September. The Ministry of Justice has sealed a 54-million-euro deal with the consortium of Comp Safe Support, which has recently won the tender for the electronic surveillance system as an alternative to penitentiary facilities. According to the new scheme, convicts of petty offences would be released from prison to serve their sentences at home, and thus reduce the country’s prison population.
