The School Cinematheque is a project launched by the Polish Film Institute, Ministry of Culture as well as the Ministry of Education aiming to popularise the art of film making among pupils of elementary and secondary schools. The project encompasses 26 thematic blocks with 55 Polish feature, documentary and animated films ,which are distributed among Polish schools to be shown during special classes of film art.

The concept emerged from the discovery that while arts, music, literature or the history of theatre are part of the school curricula, film as one of the most popular art is completely ignored. The idea is to show the young viewers that Polish film is an inseparable part of the world heritage and Polish film making industry has a notable input into the art of film making worldwide. The 26 thematic packages include documentaries, feature films and animated films accompanied by a comment of a film expert.

The films range from the classics of the 50's to present day works. The packages contain films like Wajda's 'Ashes and Diamond', Andrzej Munk's 'Eroika' through Krauze's 'Debt' or Piwowski's 'Rejs'.
