Thanks to the deal, some people will start to receive their old age pension benefits.
No more double taxation and separate social security histories for Polish workers in the US and American workers in Poland. Within the coming seven years, even 45 thousand Polish and American citizens will benefit from a deal concerning taxation and social security benefits signed by both countries.
The agreement eliminates double taxation for people delegated to work in the other country, it allows for factoring years of work in the other country into a person's pension in their own homeland. As a result, about 138 million dollars will reach Poles and Americans with such a double work experience.
Elżbieta Rożek of the Polish Labor Ministry said that thanks to the new regulations, some people in Poland will start to receive their benefits: 'To receive the benefits a person has to have certain history of paying into a social security system. If it's too short, the person won't receive any benefits at all. Thanks to this deal, when we add up work history in both countries, the person will reach the limit and start to receive benefits from both states, who will each pay for the time that the person worked in their country,' she explained.
The deal on social security was signed a year ago, but it has been waiting until now to be ratified by both parliaments. A similar document signed with Canada awaits ratification on the Canadian side.
