Madeleine Albright (source: Wikipedia)

Madeleine Albright has talked to Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, as well as to Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski. She has also taken part in a conference on "Democracy at the times of global crisis" at the Warsaw University.

In the debate, Albright said she supports the new US policy towards Russia. The thaw in relations between Washington and Moscow will help solve problems such as Iran, Afghanistan, financial crisis and globalization, she claims.

Poland's Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski, who also took part in the debate, said Russian and American disarment talks are in the Polish interest. He wouldn't say definitely, whether the new American policy towards Russia means an end to Polish-American missile defense deal.

Although theoretically a private person now, Albright's statements should not be ignored, not only as opinions of an experience political analyst, but also as opinions of former Secretary of State, explains professor Krzysztof Michałek, Warsaw-based American studies expert.

During her visit to Poland, Madeleine Albright also recalled the time of Poland's entry to NATO ten years ago. It was her, as US Secretary of State, who signed the Polish accession documents on the 12th of March 1999, together with the then head of Polish diplomacy Bronisław Geremek.
