A new book on former president Lech Wałęsa accusing him of collaborating with communist secret services has sparked a major debate in the country.

This is the second book published in under a year on his alleged past as a spy, which gives him reason to believe a witch hunt against him is in full swing. The publication is the master’s thesis of Paweł Zyzak, a 24-year-old office junior operating the photocopier in the archive department at the Institute of National Remembrance. Though meant to be a serious historical publication, it is believed to be of very poor quality. Its release has created a domino effect, with fervent reactions across the political divide.
