The southern city of Kraków is preparing for Easter in its own usual way.
The Main Market Square has turned into a local fair which not only offers delicacies from around the region, but also puts on cultural events for locals and tourists alike. This year also sees the issue of a new commemorative coin, the “Krak”, which has been produced for the occasion.
Roman Gawrysiak from the Cracovian Merchants’ Congregation is in charge of the market’s organisation: “This is the 15th time we are organising the market, it’s very popular, but it’s important to say that we are not just organising a trade event, but also cultural attractions, and as such there are side events that are put on during the market. Visitors come here from Kraków, in addition to tourists from around Poland and from abroad.”
Krzysztof Drogoszcz from the Regional Promotion Office has hopes that the new commemorative coins will also be in demand. And he is right, as all the gold-minted coins worth 2500 zloty each have all been sold. What remains are a few silver coins and with a run of 100,000 bronze coins worth 4 zloty each, there are still plenty to go around.
