Poland's former Prime Minister Jerzy Buzek has been elecetd as head of the European Parliament

Jerzy Buzek received support from 555 MEPs from the 644 valid votes cast and his election did not come as a surprise, since the five largest political groupings in the EP had declared their support for the Polish candidate. Buzek will now serve for two and a half years. The outgoing president of the European parliament Hans Gert Poetttering congratulated his successor in Polish.
