Anders Fogh Rasmussen

Mission in Afghanistan and cooperation with Russia at the top of Alliance priorities

Report by Slawek Szefs

NATO's new Secretary General - Anders Fogh Rasmussen of Denmark - has outlined Alliance priorities at his first official press conference in Brussels on Monday.

The mission in Afghanistan and improving relations with Russia top the list, though both require a change in strategy.

A strong Polish accent in Mr. Rasmussen's press conference had been made with the announcement of names comprising the new NATO Wise Men Group. The twelve member policy advisory body headed by former US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright includes professor Adam Daniel Rotfeld, Poland's former Foreign Minister.
