If you want to make money and a career, move to Warsaw or its vicinity. If you dream about a big family, good health and peace, definitely opt for south eastern Poland, the Podkarpackie province. Avoid Łodz, central Poland, because the incidence of cancer and heart diseases is highest there. These are some of the conclusions that can be drawn from a report just released by Poland's Main Statistical Office.

Warsaw, the capital, was praised for the job market, with low unemployment and high salaries. At the same time it was criticized for high cost of living and long working hours which put a strain on family life. No wonder fewer people get married and have kids in Warsaw than in other regions.

Most people who emigrate out of Warsaw for all these reasons, choose Podkarpackie and Podlaskie provinces in south east Poland. These are definitely less wealthy regions, and their GDP is estimated at 35 to 45 percent of the EU average, compared to the 85% of EU average achieved by Mazowsze, including Warsaw. But Podkarpackie is where people live longest and have least civilizational diseases. There are many rural areas, people live healthy food, cherish family and religious values and vote conservative. There are many marriages, fewer divorces and many kids are born.
