Vistula river bank in Krakow

With most tourist activity happening on terra firma, the city’s Sport Infrastructure Board, in charge of the project, sees the potential behind the river boat service. The Municipality also wants to see a return of tourists to the riverfront in Krakow.

Report by John Beauchamp

With a decline in tourism over the past couple of years due in part to the financial crisis, the city needs to find more ways of making the city more attractive to visitors.

On an economic note, both the EU and the city are funding the project. However, the river boat forms only part of a larger project to see the revitilisation of the Wisla boulevards, and the service may potentially become part of the city’s transport infrastructure.

2010 will see whether the river boat service will take off proper, but in hindsight the pilot project will certainly be useful in determinig what has still to be done. In two words: a lot.
