This is the biggest success of the Polish men's squad but also a great coaching success of Daniel Castellani - Argentine Olympic volleyball player who started working with the team only in January. Poland's volleyball teams achieved the biggest successes in the 1970s. They also won silver medal in world championships three years ago and took the fifth place during the Summer Olympic Games in Beijing last year. This is the first medal, however, picked up on the old continent.
Apart fom winning gold medals as a team, Piotr Gruszka was voted Most Valuable Player of the tournament and Pawel Zagumny Best Setter.
