Such findings are reportedly the result of a review of American missile defense program ordered by President Barack Obama. This is not the first time that such reports appeared in the American media just to mention The New York Times which wrote on August 29 that the US government had developed possible alternative plans for the shield project. This time, however, analysts agree they should be taken seriously.

According to The Wall Street Journal, which cites unnamed current and former officials, the US will order a shift towards the development of regional missile defences for Europe that would be less controversial for Russia. The decision is to be formally announced next week following the talks of US Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security, Ellen Tauscher, in Warsaw, Prague and Brussels.
