The Sacrum Profanum festival of contemporary music was launched in 2003 . Its main idea is to present intertwining trends in 20th century music: the sacred and the lay.

Each festival is devoted to the works of composers from different countries. Previous editions have hosted music from Vienna, France, Russia , the United States and Germany. This year’s edition promotes contemporary British music.
The programme includes concerts and premiers of works by composers as Julian Anderson, Jonathan Harvey, George Benjamin or Mark Anthony Turnage.
The musicians at Sacrum Profanum 2009 include the legendary jazz and electronic ensemble the Cinematic Orchestra, London Sinfoniette, Klangforum Wien. The final day belongs to Britain’s electronic virtuoso Aphex Twin who is to give two concerts at the chemical tinning plant. (ab)
