US Vice-President Joe Biden arrives in Warsaw tonight, beginning in Poland a four–day visit to Central Europe devoted in great part to Washington’s plans on a new missile defence system.

The visit comes after the September decision by President Obama to scrap the missile defence shield blueprinted by the Bush administration to serve as protection against possible attacks by Iran, parts of which were to be built in Poland and the Czech Republic. It also follows talks in Warsaw last week when the US officially confirmed it would deploy in Poland Patriot missiles and new SM-3 interceptor rockets.
