Thousands of files documenting the surveillance of the Polish government in exile in 1939 in Romania were just handed over to the Agency of Internal Security (ABW) by its Romanian counterpart, Securitas. According to historians, the documents copied and passed to the Museum of World War Two in Gdansk, are of unique character and may shed some new light on the historical events of that period.
The documents handed over to Poland were drawn up in Romanian, French, German, Polish and Russian languages. They include photographs of the interned officers, official reports and private correspondence intercepted by Romanian services. The museum authorities announced the documents will eventually be available to all interested historians with their publication scheduled for next year.
