On November 11, the anniversary of Poland’s regaining independence after over a century of foreign rule, we look at what independence means to Poles and how they celebrate National Independence Day.

Michal Kubicki talks to the historian Wojciech Roszkowski about the significance of the November 11; Danuta Isler interviews Krzysztof Jaraczewski, the grandson of Jozef Pilsudski, the authoritarian leader of the Second Polish Republic, largely responsible for Poland regaining independence in 1918; and Elzbieta Krajewska reports from the western city of Poznan, where Independence Day celebrations and festival of St. Martin Street are held.
