The PM has proposed amendments to establish a clear division of executive powers.

In simple language, the amendments would go in the direction of curbing certain presidential powers and to precisely define the head of state's prerogatives in order to get rid of situations providing opportunity for giving vent to political bias or even personal animosities, in case of disagreement. What is more, the president would be elected by a House vote and not in a direct ballot, as presently. All this, according to PM Tusk, to secure peace and stability for future governments to work uninterrupted in attaining their goals.

The general response to the need for fundamental changes to Poland's Constitution has been fairly unanimous. But this still remains far from rendering support to the initiative.
