The carp is a must on practically every Christmas menu in Poland. Often seen with disregard in other European countries, the carp tops the list for fish up and down the country.

Traditionally eaten on Christmas Eve, it is usually bought live at a local market and then brought home to be killed and gutted.

 

But a new law in Poland now prohibits the transport of the humble fish in plastic bags, where the fish slowly suffocate on their way home.

 

The new regulation has been met with mixed reactions…
