Some of the world’s finest pianists are gathering in Warsaw this week to celebration Chopin’s 200th birthday.

Polish pianist Rafał Blechacz, winner of the Chopin Competition in Warsaw in 2005, is the soloist during tonight’s gala concert in the National Philharmonic Hall in Warsaw.

 

He will perform Chopin’s Concerto in F minor with the National Philharmonic Orchestra under Antoni Wit. It is the first in a series of concerts and recitals marking the 200th anniversary of the composer’s birth. Featured stars billed in Warsaw this week include Garrick Ohlsson,  Dang Thai Son, Ivo Pogorelić, Murray Perahia, Daniel Barenboim, Evgeny Kissin, Nicolai Demidenko, Kevin Kenner, Piotr Anderszewski and Nelson Goerner.
