The Columbia University in New York is hosting a photo exhibit ‘The Polish People’s Republic: So Close and So Far Away’.

It is a retrospective of forty five years of Poland’s turbulent post-war history, from the Warsaw Rising of 1944, through the workers protests, the birth of the dissident movement  and the election of the Polish Pope in the Seventies,  to the birth of Solidarity and the collapse of communism in  1989.
