Lech Kaczynski and his wife Maria will be buried at a funeral ceremony in Krakow on Sunday afternoon at 2pm Polish time.

The decision to hold the funeral ceremony in what some see as Poland’s spiritual centre and the resting place of kings and heroes has caused much controversy, which some have said has broken the peace of national mourning.

Following protests on Tuesday evening against the planned funeral in Krakow, Politicians from across the spectrum have asked for Polish society to keep calm and to unite in this period of mourning.
