Last weekend Poles who care about their environment picked many tons of trash littering their country as part of the Clean Up the World scheme.

The 2010 tag line of Clean Up the World was “Communities Caring for Nature”, with an eye to the International Year of Biodiversity. In Poland, the emphasis was on waste segregation and recycling, says Mira Stanislawska Meysztowicz, from Our Earth Foundation, which organized the clean-up campaign. The EU has given Poland a warning for its poor waste management. If the situation is not improved by the end of 2010, this country will get a heavy fine.
