One of the greatest living composers - Henryk Mikolaj Gorecki - died on Friday at the age of seventy six.
David Harrington, the founder of the Kronos Quartet, speaks about his long-time friend to Michal Kubicki.
One of the leading figures in Polish avant-garde music of the 1960s, he achieved world fame with his Third Symphony. But his output includes a wide range of pieces, among which the three string quartets occupy a special place.
The pieced were all written for the famous Kronos Quartet from the United States. It so happened that the news of Gorecki’s death reached Kronos musicians on the day of their concert in the Polish city of Wroclaw. Michal Kubicki spoke to the violinist David Harrington, the founder of Kronos, a day after their concert.
