One week before the main NATO summit in Lisbon, the 56th session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly opened at the parliamentary buildings in Warsaw, Friday, and lasts until Tuesday.

The Parliamentary Session is to deal with matters concerning energy security, as well as a continuing strategy for Afghanistan. Other subjects such as NATO-Russia cooperation and relations between NATO and the EU were also on the agenda.

NATO's new strategic concept is to pave the way for the Alliance's functioning for the next decade. Poland was one of a few countries that drafted its own report as to the concept, which is to be presented at the NATO summit in Lisbon beginning at the end of this week.
