The 40th US president, Ronald Reagan, was one of few Western politicians
to actively support Poland’s opposition and stand fervidly again
communism. A day after the late leader’s centenary, we look at Reagan’s
legacy in Poland.

These are Ronald Reagan’s memorable words in his landmark speech at
Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate in 1987, where he appealed to Soviet leader
Mikhail Gorbachev to shift towards democracy. Considered one of the
greatest leaders in US history, his policies helped bring about an end
to Cold War, the fall of the Soviet Union and the eastern bloc.
