• 'Saviour Square' wins Gdynia film festival

“The Saviour`s Square”, a movie directed by Krzysztof Krauze and Joanna Kos-Krauze, has won the Golden Lions – the main award of the 31st Festival of Polish Feature Films at the Baltic port city of Gdynia. The directors and actors received a thounderous ovation during the gala evening in the Musical Theatre, which was stuffed with poular movie makers from across Poland and from abroad and with lots of celebrities.

There were no doubts that “The Saviour`s Square” is a real movie masterpiece about a contemorary life and a crisis in a family. It received five other awards. Jowita Budnik was recognized as the best actress, starring in the film and Ewa Wencel received the award for the best supporting role. The composer of music and the producer of the film were also awarded. The Polish president, Lech Kaczyński awarded the film “The Saviour`s Square” for its social sensitivity.

24 films were competing for the main award of the festival the Golden Lions.
Marek Koterski, who directed the movie “All of Us Are Christs”, was recognized as the best director. Zbigniew Zamachowski won the main prize as the best leading actor. Krzysztof Kiersznowski was recognized as the best supporting actor. The movie “What the Little Sun Has Seen”, directed by Michał Rosa, was rewarded as the best one that had been shown abroad.
Feliks Falk, the movie director and the president of the jury said: - It takes some years to make a movie. During such a long period of time all the energy of movie makers can dissipate. But the situation of Polish film makers has changed significantly in recent years. Distributors now understand that they can also make a profit of ambitious movies – he pointed out.
