'Help Polish brown bears' is a new project aimed at protecting the animal in Poland.

Agnieszka Bielawska reports

Estimates speak of only 90 brown bears inhabiting the eastern part of the Polish Carpathian Mountains. The exact number of the bears is unknown since no professional counting had been conducted. WWF wants to help in specifying the exact number of bears in Poland, and to help protect the animal living in its natural environment as well as increase the awareness of people about the habits and life of the bear in the country.

Examples show that the animal cannot feel safe from the interference of man, but experts underline that people have to be aware that they are dealing with a wild animal, which poses threat to man. Protecting the bear is important, but it is also important to take into account their habitat, breeding and hunting territory as well as all the possible consequences of trespassing on man-inhabited areas.

One should be aware that it is impossible to educate the bear how to avoid people so raising people's awareness is vital.
