During his Sunday visit to Georgia president Lech Kaczynski came under gunfire near the border with South Ossetia.

Answering questions at a press conference back in the capital of Tbilisi the Polish president said he was convinced the action had been provoked by the Russian side. Lech Kaczynski also pointed out that according to the 6 point peace plan negotiated by French president Sarkozy to end the Georgian-Russian conflict over South Ossetia, Russian military forces should not be present in that area. This clearly shows Russia has been violating the agreement, he stressed.
