A 'No to Sochi' campaign against Russia as host of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Russia has been launched in Poland six years ahead of the event.

Report by Alicja Baczynska.

Activists of the Polish-Czech-Slovak Solidarity Foundation, and the Wroclaw PRO Association have joined forces to protest against the organisation of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Russia. The No to Sochi campaign, recently initiated in Wrocław, southwestern Poland, seeks to highlight Russia’s human rights record as conflicting with the Games’ ideals.

Around 2,500 people have already signed the petition, among them former presidents of Poland and the Czech Republic, Lech Walesa and Vaclav Havel, as well as other communist-era opposition activists. The petition is intended to reach the Polish Olympic Committee in 2012 at the latest.
