For the first time in post-war Poland the Jewish Festival of Light was inaugurated with the participation of the President.

The main ceremonies were held at the Nozyk synagogue in Warsaw. The Rabbi of Poland Michael Schudrich and the Chairman of the Union of Jewish Communities in Warsaw Piotr Kadlcik were joined by the President of Poland Lech Kaczynski. This had been the first such participation in Hanukkah celebrations by an acting Polish head of state in the post-war history of the country.

The president had been given the honor of lighting the first candle on the Menorah, starting the eight day Jewish holiday. Wishing the gathered all the best, Lech Kaczynski expressed his great satisfaction and joy with the reconstruction of Jewish community life in Poland.
