'Skipping Christmas', John Grisham's light novel, clearly explains why we should not miss this important family season. However all the rush, crowds, shopping craze preceding Christmas have led many Polish families to follow the idea of Luther Krank and spend Christmas far away from home.

Crammed railway stations and the national airport need not necessarily mean that Poles are travelling to visit some distant relatives for Christmas. Travel agencies in Poland discovered a new season: the Christmas season. Exotic trips, cosy Christmas evenings in a luxurious hotel in the Polish mountains or tramping through India. Poles discovered that Chrismas can be spent someplace else than home and far from the maddening family crowd.
