Window of Life

Just in time for Christmas and only two weeks after Poland's second window of life opened in Warsaw, a baby boy was left there by a mother in a difficult situation. Now the boy will find a better future with loving adoptive parents.

Report by Joanna Najfeld.

The Window of Life is built into the walls of the convent at 53 Hoża Street in central Warsaw. It opens from the outside and is warmed up and ventilated inside. Mothers who feel they are not able to keep the baby, may leave it in good hands in a discrete manner. As soon as the baby is placed inside the Window, the alarm goes off calling nuns who come to pick up the child and provide immediate medical care.

The Warsaw Window of Life is Poland's second. The previous, one opened in Krakow in 2006, has already been of service to nine mothers in despair. Babies left in the Window of Life get adopted quickly into loving families. Those found in the Krakow Window of Life are already safe with their new parents.
