• Law and Justice wants spring 2011 elections
  • 19.01.2009

Member of the Law and Justice party, Adam Bielan, has announced that the party would like to see parliamentary elections in the spring of 2011. He stated that a spring time election makes it easier for the winning party to enact policies throughout the year.

“The fiscal cycle would allow a new government to work on the budget that they would need for their projects, and not be stuck with the budget of the previous government,” stated Bielan.

According to Bielan, earlier elections are supported by the Law and Justice party (PiS) and by the ruling party, Civic Platform (PO). He added that the party that wins the presidential elections, currently scheduled for 2010, will also be the favoured party in the parliamentary elections.

As well, 2011 is the year of Poland’s turn to hold the European Union presidency. Politicians from both parties have expressed concern that a parliamentary shift during the EU cadency would complicate political matters, thus, the idea to move up the parliamentary elections. (mmj)
