• Minister’s son threatens blogger
  • 15.05.2009

Krzysztof Czuma, a son of the Justice Minister Andrzej Czuma, has threatened to sue well-known political blogger ‘Kataryna’ after she accused him of lying.

The minister’s son wants Salon24, where she publishes her blog, to expose her true identity so he can proceed with his lawsuit.

On 9 May, the weekly Newsweek wrote that Justice Minister Andrzej Czuma during his visit to the US met with the Attorney General of Illinois Lisa Madigan to talk about his private business – which as the blogger wrote, involve his alleged American debts.

Kataryna  - famous for her caustic comments - criticized Czuma on her blog. She wrote: “What a great Minister of Justice we’ve got! That’s how, in a fully professional and to the point way, he denied the allegedly untrue information about himself [here she quotes Andrzej Czuma]. Somehow I’m convinced that the information will soon be confirmed and it will turn out again that the Minister of Justice did not tell the truth.”

Krzysztof Czuma, agitated by the criticism of his father, appealed to Salon24, a blog platform, to remove the blog post reveal Kataryna’s identity so that he can sue her.

He threatened that unless Salon24 does what he wants, he will sue the whole blog platform.

The owner of Salon24 Igor Janke is bewildered by Krzysztof Czuma’s appeal and recalls his e-mail, in which he named Kataryna a “wicked witch”. Kataryna herself announced she would not remove her entry or reveal her (or his) identity. The anonymous  is supported by bloggers from Salon24, who are outraged at the Czuma’s attack on her, which they perceive as an attempted  restriction of freedom of speech.  (mg/pg)
