Polish citizens applying for a passport will have their fingerprints taken.
Passports issued after the 29th of June will contain digital fingerprints. The requirement has been imposed on Poland by the European Union. Biometric passports, including two fingerprints, will be introduced in the whole EU and Iceland, Norway, Switzerland.
Offices responsible for issuing passports say they are prepared to handle the new law. The new system cost over 39 million zloty (nearly 12 million US dollars). Prices of passports will remain the same. (jn)
