The grave of Tzaddik Yitzhak Meir Alter, the XIX century Hasidic leader, was vandalized yesterday at a town near Warsaw.
Vandals painted a swastika and the slogan “Jude raus” on the wall of the tomb located in Gora Kalwaria, on the suburbs of Warsaw. The desecration was reported by the Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland. Vandals also blocked the entrance door to the tomb with construction foam.
Tzaddik Yitzhak Meir Alter (1798-1866) was the founder of the Gerrer Hasidic dynasty and his grave is a place of pilgrimage for followers of his philosophy.
The Foundation has sent a protest letter to the office of the Warsaw Police Commander for the Protection of Human Rights. (jg)
