An American man infected with a swine flu, currently in a hospital in Chorzow, south-western Poland, is reported to feel fine.
The 21-year old American of Polish origin will stay in the hospital for the next three or four days, Krzysztof Hornik, director of the hospital said.
“Both of his parents are healthy and they can leave the hospital. However, the man’s father will stay here. The young man is not doing so well mentally and would like to leave but this is not possible now. He does not speak Polish, so his father’s presence will be an additional help,” Hornik said.
The man, who arrived in Poland on Friday from the US on the LOT flight number LH3332 via Munich, was contacted by his friend from Washington, telling him that he had been detected with the A/H1N1 virus. He then went to the hospital, as he was suffering from a cough and bronchial irritation.
Previously, a 42 year old man and a 58 year old woman were found to have been infected with the A/H1N1 virus but are now both recovered. So far 86 people have died from the recent outbreak of swine flu worldwide, 75 of them citizens of Mexico.
Meanwhile, the Polish Foreign Ministry has cancelled its warning not to travel to Mexico, as the situation in the country stabilizes. However, the ministry still advises for travelers to exercise caution and avoid mass groups of people and to use masks wherever possible.. (jg/pg)
