Polish comedian Tadeusz Ross is likely to take a seat in the European Parliament.
If Danuta Hubner becomes a European Commissioner once again - previously she was Regional Affairs commissioner - her seat at the European Parliament, which she won in the June 7 elections, will be taken by Tadeusz Ross, a 71-year-old comedian who hosted the Zulu-Gula show.
Ross, an MP in Poland since 2007, was Civic Platform’s candidate for MEP in this year’s elections. He gathered over 13,000 votes but failed to win a seat
Ross is excited about his possible new role in the EP. In Brussels he wants to fight for children’s rights and deal with EU funds for children.
According to daily Dziennik, Civic Platform would prefer Grzegorz Kostrzewa-Zorbas, a political scientist and diplomat, to represent the party in the EP instead of Ross. “Kostrzewa-Zorbas is more experienced and has a profound knowledge of international relationships,” said Polish MEP Boguslaw Sonik.
Civic Platform may offer Ross to take the head of one of the parliamentary commissions in the Lower House of the Polish Parliament, in return for resigning the EP seat. However, the comedian remains relentless and assures he will become a MEP.
