The President of the Republic of Poland should serve seven, not five, years of office, says President Lech Kaczynski.
In a letter addressed to experts in constitutional law, President Kaczynski suggested that the extension of the presidential term of office to seven years, but without the possibility of re-election, would be beneficial for the country.
“It would increase the role of the president and so guarantee continuity and efficiency of state institutions in a pluralistic system,” writes the head of state.
He also emphasized how dangerous the domination of one political party can be for democracy. “One-party system is a threat to political pluralism and to parliamentary democracy,” explained Lech Kaczynski. (mg/pg)
