Heavy storms crashed in to the north-eastern region of Warmia and Mazury last night flooding homes and shops. In Olsztyn, the main city of the region with 175,000 inhabitants, the Lyna river flooded its banks.
In Ostroda, a town located 40 kilometers from Olsztyn water flooded one of the main streets, covering shops and garages.
A difficult situation remains in the southern Silesian region of Bielsko-Biala, close to the Czech border. After torrential rain, which came to the region yesterday evening, a railway station in Czechowice-Dziedzice has been flooded as well as a part of the motorway no.1 between Goczalkowice and Pszczyna.
Firemen report that water levels are slowly reducing, but rail tracks are still under water and trains are out of action.
Czechowice-Dziedzice’s station is one of the most important in the region and is also on the line of the international trains from Warsaw to Budapest and Vienna. Regional anti-crisis centre says that pumping out water from the station may take up to a dozen hours.
