Consternation in Law and Justice after a councillor in Olsztyn announced that the town’s president should recognize the cultural contribution of the death metal band Vader.
Councillor Grzegorz Smolinski (Law and Justice) argues that although not everyone may like their kind of music, Vader is probably the best known Polish group in the world and does enjoy the status of an international star.
Since Law and Justice is a supporter of Christian values while the band, though rejecting accusations of satanism, exploits anti-religious symbols, the idea has not found support either among the party’s leadership nor among Law and Justice members of the Parliamentary culture commission. Law and Justice’s Joachim Brudzinski told the daily Gazeta Wyborcza that “nobody who is right in the head will bother with guys dressed in black and throwing tomato juice over themselves”.
