The flood situation in southern Poland is still dramatic.
A 2-year-old boy remains in critical condition in hospital after he was washed away by flood water in the locality of Lapanow, near Bochnia.
As his parents worked to clear a blocked drainage channel, the toddler fell into the water and the current dragged him into a culvert. The parents managed to get him out but the boy was unconscious. He was transported by helicopter to a clinic in Krakow.
Intensive rains continued today over Lower Silesia, moving towards the Kłodzko area. Many localities in southern Poland are still on flood alert but in places the situation is improving. However, meteorological services warn of more wet and stormy weather in the next two days.
On his visit to the stricken Klodzko Valley deputy PM and Interior Minister Grzegorz Schetyna announced that payment of aid for flood victims would start this Monday, although, he said, now it was difficult to start estimating losses when more water might come in the next few days.
