Fire fighters, municipal guards and animal shelter staff pooled forces to save an Alsatian dog trapped in a burning car at the parking lot in front of the city hall in Słupsk, northern Poland, Friday.

The effort was all the more difficult as the dog was intent on protecting his master’s property.

Eventually the animal was removed from the blazing vehicle and restored to its owners. An initial investigation pointed to an electrical fault being the cause of the fire. (ek/pg)
