Heavy storms that passed over Warsaw, Friday, flooded the metro, hospitals and several buildings.
The storm lasted only several minutes but caused serious damages. “Fire brigades were called out sixty times to remove fallen trees and pump out water from flooded cellars,” said Pawel Fratczak, spokesman for the fire service.
The most flood-stricken were the southern districts of Warsaw: Wlochy, Ursynow, Sluzewiec and Wilanow.
Torrential rain also flooded two hospitals and two metro stations. Trains suspended on the passage between Pole Mokotowskie and Ursynow. “It is a rather unusual situation. Last time the underground was flooded seven years ago,” said Krzysztof Malawko, spokesman for the Warsaw Metro, Friday.
More storms are expected in Poland during the weekend. (mg/pg)
