Fiasco of talks with striking nurses at the Specialized Hospital in Radom, where the protest is into its fifth day. The nurses had warned they would step up the strike if negotiations failed.
Yesterday’s meeting between the hospital management, the nurses and the city authorities did not resolve the conflict, with the nurses rejecting the management’s offer. The nurses are demanding substantial pay raises, however the hospital management argues that this is not possible as the clinic is already in debt.
Because of the protest, tomorrow the hospital’s director is to decide whether there is a need to temporarily close or evacuate some departments. The hospital is only admitting patients whose life is at risk. (EK)
