More equipment was needed in Afghanistan, not men said Polish PM Donald Tusk, who also announced that he would present a report on Monday’s incident in Ajiristan at the cabinet session this coming Tuesday.

The Prime Minister said that sending more men to join the mission in a situation when there was insufficient equipment  would weaken the contingent not support it.

The Premier said he would want our soldiers to feel safe having helicopters and other modern transport equipment, arms,  improved legal circumstances;  not necessarily by sending out more men. As you know, there wasn’t a shortage of men.

In an attack on Monday, which resulted in a 6-hour-long battle, a Polish captain was killed and four men injured. Poland has a contingent of 2000 deployed in Afghanistan. The Defence Ministry had been considering sending an additional 200 troops to reinforce the contingent. (EK)
