Today marks the anniversary of the Battle of Warsaw, known also as the Miracle on the Vistula River.

On the 15th of August 1920, Poland defeated the Red Army, secured nearly twenty years of independence for the country, and saved Europe from the Bolsheviks. According to some historians, this was one of the most important battles in the history of the world.

The 1920 battle was won by Poles against all predictions, as it seemed Poland stood no chance. (jn/mmj)
